Life Won't Always Hand You Lemons, Sometimes You Have To Pick Them

Plant your own garden instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.” It’s funny how one silly quote you scroll past on social media can change your mindset on life. The internet be like that sometimes.

It’s time to have a little tough-love heart-to-heart, family.

Do you ever feel like your life isn’t what you thought it would be like? You have the “why is this happening to me?” mindset and, for whatever reason, you are fully convinced the universe is out to get you. Every area in your world comes crashing down and your life begins to spiral out of control as you suffocate to the point of no return.

You blame your circumstances instead of your attitude.

You fight the world instead of finding your place in it.

And you sure as heck don’t take responsibility for the decisions you make.

It may not seem like it, but this is not a personal attack. If the words you have read so far resonate with you in any way...then listen up.

Life is not planned out for you and simply existing is far from easy. Life will not always give you lemons to give you a kickstart in making lemonade...sometimes you have to find the RIGHT tree, PICK the lemons off the tree with your bare hands and SQUEEZE those bad boys yourself. But it’s okay because fresh lemonade is better anyway.

It takes action.

The more you put into life, the more you’ll get out of it: More kindness. More love. More understanding. More respect. More servanthood. More giving. More joy.

And that goes for us "Negative Nancy’s" too: More negativity. More depression. More anxiety. More hate.

If everything is going wrong, maybe you need to look within yourself and see what you can change. The most frustrating yet important lesson my momma ever taught me was this: “you can’t change other people, you can only change you.” Sometimes you have to work extra hard to change yourself to gain the life you’ve always wanted. It may sound selfish at first, but the people around you will be thankful you finally figured it out. It’s hard to see what’s wrong with yourself because your mind will always resort to blaming those around you, but it’s a battle between you and human nature. It’s up to you to decide who will win.

Never believe the lie that you are better than someone else. There is always room for growth. There is always room for wisdom.

Now is your time to look within yourself and see what needs to change. Listen and reflect upon constructive criticisms people hand you and GROW instead of taking offense.

To anti-quote the great Forrest Gump - life is most certainly not just a box of chocolates. Nothing happens by pure chance and good things don’t just get handed to you. It’s up to YOU to change YOU and do the work.
